Pacific Northwest National Laboratory partnered with the U.S. Government Biosurveillance Ecosystem program to host a 10 week mobile application contest featuring teams of college student interns. Each team was carefully selected and composed of students with experience and interest in programming, mobile development, user experience, and public health. The students were given broad flexibility in terms of the types of applications developed, and were given access to scientists and researchers at PNNL with domain-specific knowledge.

The goals were to provide support for innovative research in biosurveillance and to inspire the next generation of researchers at the forefront of global biosurveillance issues.
